Tom Wachunas — Spare Changes (WAX MAGE LTD EDITION)
This is the LTD Edition Wax Mage color vinyl version – limited to 25 copies worldwide (and orders are strictly limited to 1 copy per customer, while supplies last). If you are looking for the standard black vinyl edition, click here.
Tom Wachunas – Spare Changes is by far one of the best (and unknown/underappreciated) singer-songwriter records ever made. Classifying the album within a specific genre is a terribly difficult feat – acid folk? folk rock? psychedelic? A true cornucopia of instrumentation – sax, vibes, kalimba, tabla, guitars, accordion(!) and introspective lyrics. Imagine being on a Caribbean cruise ship in 1975, and Neil Young happens to be croonin’ with a 12 piece band on some new material that never saw the light of day.
Recorded in Columbus, Ohio USA in 1975 at the now-defunct Owl Recording Studios, Spare Changes was actually Tom Wachunas’s graduation project for his Masters in Fine Arts from The Ohio State University. Extremely rare – only 1,000 copies of the original pressing were manufactured.
Housed in a 100% recycled board jacket and 100% recycled polybags.
Wax Mage editions are sold as-is, as a mystery color vinyl variant. You will be surprised by what the record looks like, and it will be wild. Note, sound quality of the record itself can be affected by the uniqueness of the color vinyl pattern, so please be aware that these limited Wax Mage editions may have playback nuances that the standard black vinyl version does not.
